Description
The Signature I-91 is both vertically and horizontally symmetrical, and can be used as a main or centre loudspeaker.
It features a fully magnetically-shielded 170mm dual concentric driver, manufactured exclusively for VAF Research. This unique driver is constructed such that the tweeter is at the centre of and perfectly time-aligned with the woofer. Optimum phase and impulse responses are achieved using this arrangement, which results in accurate reproduction of spatial information and significantly enhanced imaging and sound staging. An additional benefit is wide and even dispersion so ideal sound is available to a variety of listening positions.
The woofer cone is constructed of soft black fibreglass and has several anti-resonance treatments applied. Its long, linear-throw motor is fully magnetically-shielded, and has an asymmetric magnet system to maintain exceptionally low distortion under extreme dynamic conditions.
The single 25mm Sonotex dome tweeter is precisely positioned at the acoustic centre of the woofer to optimise phase and impulse responses, and therefore maintains an exact spatial recreation of the original sound wave front, as it was recorded. This tweeter also features powerful rare earth magnets and can dissipate heat through a thermally conductive connection to the rear of the woofer in which it is mounted. This ensures exceptional power handling for such a compact component.
Optimised internal damping is provided by VAF’s advanced HyperSoft material and effectively eliminates internal cabinet reflections and standing waves.
An obvious and integral design feature on every VAF loudspeaker is natural, acoustically absorbent fibre pads which are fitted around critical drivers to accurately control dispersion and effectively eliminate diffraction effects.
The I-91 driver is housed in a beautifully crafted cabinet of the highest standard and is finished in fine, genuine timber veneers. Manufactured from first grade MDF, the cabinet construction is highly detailed; precisely mitred joints and substantial internal cross-bracing characterise the superior quality of these loudspeakers.
Finishes include very high quality piano gloss or satin lacquer on crown cut, book-matched genuine timber veneers including Australian Jarrah, Cherry, Black Oak and American Oak. A black lacquer in satin or piano gloss finish is also offered, and other finishes are available on request.
